I’m Neha, founder of Authoress.
Before this brand existed, I helped build others.
I studied art direction at Sir J.J Institute of Applied Arts in Mumbai and brand building at VCU Brandcenter in the USA, and went on to gain advertising agency experience in Mumbai and USA, shaping brand narratives and creative for both global and emerging companies. That world taught me how brands speak, how they position themselves, and how culture shapes consumption.
But somewhere along the way, I began questioning my own consumption.
While recovering from burnout in a corporate career, I returned to something slower- sewing. I began making my own clothes, learning about fit and fabric one garment at a time. What started as a personal practice evolved into a point of view- Clothing, like the food we consume, should be made thoughtfully. It sits close to our skin. It affects our comfort. It becomes part of our daily life.
All our pieces are designed and produced in small batches using natural fabrics. This brand is built slowly and intentionally, not mass-produced.

These photographs are from the early days, when there was no website and I used to set up a small stall at pop-ups. Long days and real conversations with people discovering the brand for the first time. That’s where I learned what worked, what didn’t, and what really mattered to the women wearing these clothes.
And even now, I intend to keep building this brand with the same care I did when it was just a small stall and a lot of hope.
